because ...
it's a nice clean 'identifier'...
-- they read PG as 'safe for kids' and it becomes just like the Child who declares "____ is For Babies"
its easy to type
-- its a quick simple designation they can drop in conversations, five easy characters that they can make their default excuse
they don't understand it
-- The FCC enforces content for 'BROADCAST TV' the only pro Wrestling content on Broadcast is Main Event on ION, ROH in syndication, and Indy companies on the local Level If WWE or TNA wanted they could take that ratings Tab off, as they are not technically Bound by FCC oversight
-- however since most Consumers are idiots, Basic cable follows the same rules as a courtesy
-- Most if not all content ratings are self imposed/assigned... the producers of the content are given a generic 'frame' which they decide if their product fits....
they look at what they've made and decide
*** is this _____
*** does it feature D, S, L, or V?
*** is it Mild, Moderate or Severe?
then they ask
** If we say it's TV PG, but some one complains it's really TV 14 how hard are we going to have to fight for public opinion or an FCC exec who forgets he doesn't control Cable?
so Guess what they do, they say "OK we're TV 14", knowing that its harder to wander into TV MA range from TV 14 than it is to be mistaken for TV 14 if they claim TV PG
-- seriously the Best example outside of Wrestling is probably FX's Justified (and I assume several other FX series)... 2 out of 3 episodes could easily qualify as TV 14 (some maybe even TV PG), but Every Episode is rated TV MA, not only for consistency but to allow them the freedom to do anything at any time
-- and in Wrestling the last time I forced myself to watch TNA the only thing 'TV 14' about it was the excessive use of the word @$$ (because they could right) and the Company name/double entendre
