Most of the people that complain about the Television rating don't even watch World Wrestling Entertainment anymore, I hear "Is WWE Still PG" like this is the biggest fault of the Professional Wrestling Promotion.

Ruthless Aggression Era wasn't TV-14, yet people still claim a lot of the matches as best. It's Clear Rose Tinted Glasses, Why does the Television rating seem to always be the focal point. Total Nonstop Action has proven it doesn't matter...

because ...

it's a nice clean 'identifier'...

-- they read PG as 'safe for kids' and it becomes just like the Child who declares "____ is For Babies"

its easy to type

-- its a quick simple designation they can drop in conversations, five easy characters that they can make their default excuse

they don't understand it

-- The FCC enforces content for 'BROADCAST TV' the only pro Wrestling content on Broadcast is Main Event on ION, ROH in syndication, and Indy companies on the local Level If WWE or TNA wanted they could take that ratings Tab off, as they are not technically Bound by FCC oversight

-- however since most Consumers are idiots, Basic cable follows the same rules as a courtesy

-- Most if not all content ratings are self imposed/assigned... the producers of the content are given a generic 'frame' which they decide if their product fits....

they look at what they've made and decide

*** is this _____

*** does it feature D, S, L, or V?

*** is it Mild, Moderate or Severe?

then they ask

** If we say it's TV PG, but some one complains it's really TV 14 how hard are we going to have to fight for public opinion or an FCC exec who forgets he doesn't control Cable?

so Guess what they do, they say "OK we're TV 14", knowing that its harder to wander into TV MA range from TV 14 than it is to be mistaken for TV 14 if they claim TV PG

-- seriously the Best example outside of Wrestling is probably FX's Justified (and I assume several other FX series)... 2 out of 3 episodes could easily qualify as TV 14 (some maybe even TV PG), but Every Episode is rated TV MA, not only for consistency but to allow them the freedom to do anything at any time

-- and in Wrestling the last time I forced myself to watch TNA the only thing 'TV 14' about it was the excessive use of the word @$$ (because they could right) and the Company name/double entendre

The true reason that wrestling fans complain about WWE being in a PG Era is because the company along with the superstars are restricted to so much they can do on live television. It becomes a less interesting product due to the fact that little aspects such as blood, sex, and use of language are limited/prohibited on WWE television.

WWE PG Era isn't much of a problem, WWE can make a great product without the use of blood, sex, and foul language. What lacks within the company is compelling storylines that could interest the fans. They have the roster, they have the big stars, they just don't know how to keep a storyline going. A great example is The Authority storyline that occurred mid 2013. People were interested in seeing where this would take Bryan and whether or not it would elevate him to Star level like Austin, Rock, or Hogan. However, the company did not know how to continue the current storyline and therefore The Authority angle became and has become stale and boring.

However, WWE has made some compelling storylines over the years during the PG Era. The CM Punk vs John Cena feud during 2011 was something that captivated many fans and intrigued majority of the wrestling world. Another is The Rock's return to the WWE in 2011 in which he mentioned John Cena and began his early feud with him. There is also CM Punks run against the Undertaker and segments heading to Wrestlemania 29. WWE has the ability to make good storylines, it's just the fact that they don't push interesting storylines with other guys like Roman Reigns or Cody Rhodes or even CM Punk at the moment, that there's only 1 good story going on, but 5 other bad storylines happening.

By the way, the Ruthless Aggression Era was in fact TV-14.

It is only the focal point with some, hey, some fans think it is actually a good idea to fire John Cena, if they was in charge, that would be the first thing they would do!

I get bored of certain guys too, and think plenty of stars become stale doing the same thing over and over again, but if I was running WWE I know I wouldn't let a star like John Cena go, I also wouldn't be in any kind of rush to put out a TV-14 product, the PG product is fine and they produce plenty of good matches, that is what matters!

If you see that a movie is rated R, do you automatically think it is good because of its rating?

The angles and story lines are what matters. This doesn't depend on the rating. TV-14 gives you more creative freedom to do what? Chairshots/blood? Sex? That sort of thing by itself doesn't make a wrestling promotion good by necessity. WWE could be TV-14, but if their story-lines suck, what is the point of having it?

I've seen plenty of good PG movies and a lot of rated R movies and vice versa. The story is what matters.

Because TV-14 gives more creative freedom, PG gives you running over Santa Clause storylines.
