Question:
Has Randy Orton surpassed John Cena as more overrated?
THE BOTTOM LINE!!!
2009-10-31 15:02:13 UTC
Cena has too many haters for him to be overrated, and even users and fans that respect him say he's not the greatest wrestler...so I don't see how he's overrated anymore.

But Randy is a good seller, besides that he's basically like John Cena, he has around 5 moves just like Cena. But he gets claimed to be a great wrestler by a lot of people.

If it's said that it's because his character is more interesting...than that has nothing to do with the wrestling and Orton being better. That means Orton is just another over character.

I certainly think that Randy Orton has surpassed John Cena as more overrated whether its regarding the WWE or the fans.

In the WWE, there hasn't been a push of the size or magnitude of Randy Orton's push since Hulk Hogan and Brock Lesnar. Stone Cold wasn't as pushed or exposed, The Rock wasn't as pushed or exposed, and John Cena wasn't shoved down our throats like Randy Orton. WWE seems to be struggling to promote Randy Orton as the biggest star in the WWE. In the beginning, they exposed him to all 3 shows such as Raw, Smackdown, and ECW. If Randy Orton wasn't on the show, there were vignettes, interviews, and segments involving what Orton did the past week. John Cena didn't get nearly enough exposure in the beginning.

On Raw, Randy Orton was always shown in some way. He started Raw, there were numerous segments of him on Raw, and he often closed Raw with Legacy. The WWE seemed to be determined to shove him down our throats. Raw has been revolving around Randy Orton for quite a while now. He's won multiple world championships this year and he's always in Raw's biggest feuds. However, Randy Orton has failed in that aspect because he needs guest hosts to help him raise ratings. No other face of the WWE has needed such measures. The fans weren't as interested as in Randy Orton's character or ability. Ratings plummeted and WWE had to even resort to bringing the legendary Ric Flair in the WWE.

It seems that WWE has tried repeatedly pushing Randy Orton as the top heel. He attacked the McMahons, feuded with the biggest faces, and even attacked Ric Flair. WWE even gave him his own stable to help him try garnering heat and further his status in the WWE. Randy Orton has done many vile and vicious things in the WWE, but he simply doesn't receive boos or heat. Fans don't give Randy Orton the necessary reaction that Orton needs to be the top heel. WWE has tried everything to push Orton as the top heel, but they have utterly failed.

John Cena wasn't even pushed to that extent. WWE didn't have John Cena making appearances or his vignettes appear every week on all 3 shows. WWE didn't have the entire show revolving around John Cena. John Cena only won the WWE championship because of Orton's inability and incompetence.

I can't understand how anyone can call John Cena overrated by the fans. Hardly anyone in the IWC likes John Cena. There's quite a few number of his fans and his haters even want him dead. John Cena is far from being overrated by the fans. Fans don't give him credit for his memorable feuds, matches, or his ability to carry the show. John Cena doesn't get nearly the appreciation for his passion and dedication in this business. People literally start a World War when John Cena wins the world title. John Cena is criticized for just about every reason whether its 5 moves, gimmick, or his booking. Randy Orton doesn't receive nearly the criticism that John Cena receives.

Randy Orton is often praised as the greatest wrestler in the WWE. Is this supposed to be a joke? People seem to treat Randy Orton like he's a God. Whether its because he's heel or he's their favorite superstar, his wrestling ability is what emphasized or highly praised among wrestling fans. Randy Orton hasn't proven anything to me. He hasn't proven that he can have fantastic matches with lesser opponents and he hasn't proved that he can continuously improve and develop in the ring. Randy Orton hasn't shown that he's innovative in the ring or shown that he's more then an average wrestler. There's nothing that's significant about his wrestling ability. There's nothing that stands out about him. When you think of Randy Orton's matches, what exactly is memorable or something that can be praised? People can say its his character, but I've been watching him for 7 years and I haven't seen anything.

People say that Randy Orton is the greatest wrestler or one of the top wrestlers in the WWE. What exactly has he done to deserve that right? Half of the entire WWE roster can outwrestle him. Randy Orton's greatest matches have been against opponents who have carried him in the ring. Randy Orton vs Edge, Randy Orton vs Chris Benoit, Randy Orton vs The Undertaker, Randy Orton vs John Cena, Randy Orton vs Kurt Angle, and others have all been carried by his opponents. As a decent wrestler, he should at least be able to carry several opponents or deliver in the ring. When he's against an opponent that can't carry him, the match becomes a disaster.

People criticize John Cena for his lack of innovation and ability, but Orton is no different. Anyone can focus on a certain body part, anyone can pull off headlocks, anyone can stomp on opponents, etc. Randy Orton's moveset consists of stomps, headlocks, DDT, Inverted Backbreaker, and the RKO. The number of maneuvers don't make a wrestler great or horrible, but Orton doesn't apply them to further a match by telling a story. It's just bland with him. Every wrestler wants to tell a story in the ring regardless of gimmick. Orton's execution of moves seem randomly placed.

Randy Orton is highly praised and loved here while John Cena is despised. Randy Orton is overrated in my opinion.

I don't agree with you saying Cena isn't overrated, but I do think Randy if far more overrated than him. Orton gets praised by his fans like he's the greatest wrestler alive. He, like Cena only has a few moves. Every match Orton has he does a dropkick, chokehold, and backbreaker. Thats sounds a bit overrated and overhyped to me.

Yes. A lot of people credit Orton as a great wrestler, because they believe so, and rate him very high. Let's call this group A.

Some people can't find the reasons for those claims, and consider them stupid. They support Cena, and think he is better than Orton. Let's call this group B.

For a person from group A, it will seem as if most people rate Orton rightly. But for a person from group B, Orton will seem to be overrated.

Cena was overpushed from 2005. He beat a lot of talented guys, who put him over. They made him look good/better. Cena's fan-base grew very big, but consists mainly of kids, girls, women etc.,

Those fans thought/still think Cena is the best.

As time passes, Mature fans didn't enjoy his character. They are annoyed by him. His matches doesn't seem believable. His mic skill was annoying, at times, as well. He was overpushed. He used just 5 moves, mainly. His character was never entertaining nor his moves any effective. They are subjected to Cena's predictable matches and annoying promos. They hated him. IWC hated him.

But Cena was the top guy. He had a large amount of fans. And some of them are aged enough to come to Internet and confirm their views. BUT, Cena is hated by the majority! So they reduced expressing their opinions about Cena(that he is the Best), as day passes. Even his die-hard fans had to call him decent at best in Wrestling.

One must acknowledge the fact that IWC hated Cena (also) because of certain annoying Cena fans/fangirls who call him the best because he is hot or they being marks, who think Cena is really as strong as he was/is portrayed. Freedom of expression of Cena fans was opposed by a large anti-Cena army in Internet.

Now we come to 2009. In this year Big Show, The Miz and Orton put Cena over. Orton and Big Show made Cena look better. These things made him gain a lot of fans, who consider him the best as well, but they are not in IWC. Even if they come to Internet their opinions will be 'thumbs down'ed and ridiculed by Cena haters.

So, obviously he isn't overrated or that overrated in IWC anymore.

Now we look into Orton. Wrestling in his blood. 3rd generation wrestler. Great IC Champion. Was in Evolution, taught by the best. Youngest World Heavyweight Champion!!- 24 yrs, can you believe it?

Arrogance/Confidence and Wrestling SKILL made him popular.

Then he turned Face. Orton's Era begun, Orton is God signs. People believed that Orton is the Future!

Then he turned into a cocky, arrogant heel, and impressed most mature fans. Then the Age of Orton, One Man Dynasty. Everything was over with IWC.

Why am I explaining these? Well, at every instant, above mentioned, Orton was considered a great Wrestler by majority. He was known for his Wrestling. Orton fans had the freedom to say that Orton is a great wrestler in IWC.

But this year, he received a massive deserving overpush.

Some think he is not that great wrestler anymore, as he reduced his move-set after injury. Some consider him boring on mic. Some don't understand his character. Some can't bear the Legacy.

So, some fans changed their opinions on Orton, but still like him more than Cena. Some fans started hating Orton and they think Cena is better than Orton, now.(Thanks to Cena supporters)

But still Majority of IWC thinks Orton is better wrestler than Cena. I don't know why. But I can tell you why I consider Orton a great Wrestler.

He has a small but aggressive move-set. All of his moves are effective. He executes every move well, or atleast looks very confident while doing so. He is calculated inside the ring and focuses his moves on the head/neck area of his opponents.(Technical)

His moves are entertaining, and only so majority don't complain about his move-set though being small, while Cena gets all the hate.

He shows a variety of expressions during matches, which entertains/engages many fans and make them get into the story-line more and more. Though, this comes under portrayal of character more than wrestling skill, I presume. But it is a move-set of Orton(IMO).

Now comparing with Cena: Better selling. Better, effective Moves. Orton's scoop slam is more effective than Cena's finisher AA. More believably booked. Unpredictable, while Cena is the definition of predictability. Technical, while Cena is just a brawler. Better reflexes. More talented(IMO).
